LPG Import and Storage Terminal – (Saldanha Bay, Western Cape, South Africa)

The scope of this project for Sunrise Energy included the mechanical design of the Sunrise Energy LPG Import and Storage Terminal, located in the port of Saldanha Bay, South Africa. The completed terminal will be an open-access terminal, accessible to all qualifying LPG importers, wholesale distributors, traders, or industrial LPG users. The project is part of the South African Government’s Department of Energy Strategy to supply LPG to all sectors of society.

3DDraughting used AutoPIPE, MicroStation, Bentley Navigator, Bentley OpenPlant, ProjectWise, ProSteel, RAM, and STAAD.Pro for the engineering challenges that included the highly sequential execution requirements of the project. The 3D design improved the efficiency of engineering reviews and reduced decision errors and design clashes, providing for significantly more accurate fabricator contract management (fewer deviations, site instructions, and compensation events).

Finalist

Eastman Chemical Company

Eastman’s Journey to a New Global Information Sharing Platform – (Kingsport, Tennessee, United States)

Eastman Chemical Company is a Fortune 300 company with more than USD 9 billion in annual revenues, 14,000 employees, and more than 40 manufacturing sites. A growing need for better information security, improved reliability, and reduced maintenance costs mandated a new information management solution that could replace a legacy in-house system but retain Eastman’s proven records management process, integrate SharePoint environments, and utilize internal security policies.

ProjectWise met these functional requirements, as well as introduced significant productivity improvements. The lifecycle cost of the software and reduced demand on IT infrastructure and support will return nearly USD 100,000 annually. The daily use of the system will return over USD 4 million due to efficiency improvements. This USD 80 million project also included rigorous testing, user training, system migration, and enterprise-wide implementation.

Finalist

Tianjin MCC20 Construction Co., Ltd

1×600m2 Sintering Machine Phase-I Project – (Rizhao, Shandong, China)

This ferrous metallurgy project for Rizhao Steel Holding Group encompassed the construction of a large sintering plant to sinter and process iron ore. Since multiple engineering disciplines were involved in the construction and installation work for this short cycle project that will result in the largest single sintering machine in China, 3D BIM technology was used to meet the project contract in terms of schedule, quality, safety, and cost.

Using AECOsim Building Designer, GEOPAK, MicroStation, Bentley Navigator, Bentley OpenPlant, ProjectWise, and Bentley Raceway and Cable Management, Tianjin MCC20 Construction shortened construction by 35 days, reduced project costs by CNY 4.5 million, and decreased the number of changes by 95 percent through clash detection. With a return on investment of 1,100 percent, this project exceeded projected social and economic milestones.
